Biography:
Snatam explored the power of sound in India. After high school, her love for the Indian musical tradition and for children took her to Miri Piri Academy, a boarding school for children in India. She spent time taking care of the young children, teaching physical education, and providing music for the children's morning and evening chanting. When she returned to the United States, she attended Mills College in Oakland, California, where she obtained a degree in biochemistry, taught yoga classes, and shared her chants with Western audiences. But India called her back. After touring and performing Kirtan in northern India, Snatam settled in Amritsar where she studied music with the accomplished ragi (Indian master of Sikh-style kirtan) Bhai Hari Singh. This was a great honor for her, and particularly meaningful because Singh was the same teacher who had taught her mother when she was just a little girl.
Snatam embraced everything that Singh taught her, from the technical aspects of the notes, to the ability to sing with presence and awareness. The lessons took place in Singh's home, where Snatam was welcomed by the entire family--daughters, sons, and grandchildren.
While in Amritsar, Snatam lived next door to the Golden Temple, considered the world's holiest Sikh temple. Sacred music resonates from inside the temple from about 2:30 in the morning to midnight every day-sounds created by world-class masters of Sikh kirtan. This enabled Snatam to continually soak in the essence of the Sound Current.
Upon returning to the US from India, Snatam began her career as a recording artist with a band called the Peace Family. She served as the band's lead singer and, with two skilled and accomplished musicians - Livtar Singh and GuruGanesha Singh, had her first opportunity to write songs. Two years later she began to develop her own sound and style and embarked on a very fruitful solo career.

Snatam Kaur - Teree Meher Da Bolanaa (Mantra series)

This mantra is used to connect to the divine wisdom within each of us and to the lineage of teachers throughout time. Yogi Bhajan chanted this at the beginning of any class or lecture that he gave. When Snatam Kaur made this CD, Yogi Bhajan expressed gratitude that she had made this CD and spoke of taking it with him wherever he went.

Snatam Kaur - Sa Ta Na Ma (Mantra series)

Sa – infinity, beginning, Ta – life, existence, Na – death, Ma – rebirth
You may chant this mantra in any position, as long as you adhere to the following requirements:
1. Keep the spine straight
2. Focus at the brow (3rd eye) point
3. Use the “L” form of meditation (The “L” form means that when you meditate, you feel there is a constant inflow of cosmic energy into your solar center, or 10th gate (top of the head). Place Sa, Ta, Na, Ma here. As you chant “Sa,” for example, the “S” starts at the top of your head and the “a” ends at through the brow point as it is projected to infinity. This flow of energy is the connection between the pineal and the pituitary glands.)
On “Sa”, touch the first (Jupiter) finger to the thumb (knowledge) On “Ta”, touch the second (Saturn) finger to the thumb (wisdom and patience)
On “Na”, touch the third (Sun) finger to the thumb (vitality)
On “Ma”, touch the fourth (Mercury) finger to the thumb (communication)
Each time you close a mudra by joining the thumb with a finger, your ego “seals” the effect of that mudra in your consciousness. Can be chanted for 11 – 62 minutes. (This CD is 62 minutes in length)

Snatam Kaur - Re Man Eh Bidh Jog Kamao

This CD is a recitation of the Shabad Re Man Eh Bidh Jog Kamao by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. It is recited by Snatam Kaur to create a meditative state that brings deep transformation and healing. In the words of Yogi Bhajan, "Perfection of this Shabad can make you like a Golden Buddha. You will have wisdom, you will have purity of a yogi, and you will have an essence." It is a great Shabad to meditate to especially while in Bound Lotus Kriya.
Enjoy!
Re Man Eh Bidh Jog Kamaa-o
by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Master of the Sikhs
Re man eh bidh jog kamaa-o
Singee saach akapat kanthalaa
Dhi-aan Bibhoot charaa-o
Oh my mind, practice Yoga in this way:
Let Truth be your horn, sincerity your necklace, and
meditation the ashes you apply on your body.
Taatee geho aatam bas kar kee
Bhicchhaa naam adhaarang
Catch your burning soul (self) and stop the flames.
Let the soul (self) be the alms bowl in which you collect the sweet
Naam and this will be the only support you will ever need.
Baajay param taar tat har ko
Upajai raag rasaarang
The Universe plays its divine music. The sound of reality is shrill, but this is where God is.
When you listen to the reality from this place of awareness the sweet essence of Raag arises.
Ughatai taan tarang rang
At Gi-aan geet bandhaanang
Waves of melodies, emotions, and passions arise and flow through
you. Bind yourself with the song of God.
Chak chak rehay dayv daanav mun
Chhak chhak bayom bivaanang
The Universe spins like a potter’s wheel and from it fly demons and
angels. The sage listens to this and instead of getting caught in either
one, the sage drinks in the nectar of the heavens and is carried to the heavens in a divine chariot.
Aatam upadays bhays sanjam ko
Jaap so ajapaa jaapai
Instruct and clothe yourself with self control. Meditate unto infinity
until you are meditating without meditating.
Sadaa rehai kanchan see kaayaa
Kaal na kabahoo bayaapai
In this way, your body shall remain forever golden,
and death shall never approach you.

Snatam Kaur - Grace (2004)

With deeply-moving music composed jointly by Snatam Kaur and Thomas Barquee, Snatam's flawless voice dances over gentle flute, Indian violin, nylon string guitar and sublte keyboards.. Filled with songs of prayer... ~ spiritvoyage.com
"Day by day I began to realize that there is an energy in these sacred words. It was coming to me, passing to others through my voice, and would continue flowing after my physical body passes on, as it always has and as it will for eternity. This timeless, sacred energy comes to us by Grace. It is not about you or me, it is about Grace. And so, with this album called Grace, I honor and give thanks to my Guru, the Divine Sound Current that resonates within. By Thy Grace, with Love, for Peace, unto Thee, "

Snatam Kaur - Celebrate Peace (2005)

Snatam Kaur - Live in Concert

Recorded at concert halls, churches and yoga studios as Snatam Kaur and her ensemble traveled across North America, you’ll hear performances which soar to the heights of these sacred spaces and find a home in the hearts of their audiences. Join in the magical experience of Snatam Kaur Live in Concert. Also includes a bonus DVD, Path of Peace, that intimately chronicles this tour.
This album fulfills years of requests for Snatam Kaur to capture the experience of her live performances on CD. There is something mystical that happens at her concerts that is represented in these songs.
The album opens with Azure Salver, a prayer translated in the book Peace Lagoon (also availabe in our shop). This song has been a favorite at her concerts, but has never been recorded before. This song is hilighted by the clarity of Snatam's voice, the poetry of the lyrics, and the expert instrumental accompaniment.
The live version of Snatam's Ong Namo takes the recorded version into the ethers. Often when Snatam is on stage, she goes into a deep meditative space and spontaneously weaves improvisational poetry into the songs. Ong Namo has a beautiful example of this.
On Ong Sohung, Gobinda Hari and Adi Shakti, the dynamic interplay of the entire band is hilighted to perfection with incredible musical conversations between Snatam Kaur, Manish Vyas and GuruGanesha Singh, fantastic solos on guitar, violin, tabla and clarinet, and the lively experience of a slowly building rhythm that is unique to the live kirtan experience.
Shivohum is a track composed by Manish, and you will be singing this track for years to come. A beautiful duet between Snatam and Manish, this track has an an addictive energy and purity of sound that you will want to listen to again and again.
REVIEWS “When you hear Snatam sing, you have a sudden profound experience of how her work manifests itself in song. Her crystal clear voice opens up, and everyone in the room feels in their hearts that peace is truly possible.” - Body Mind Spirit Guide

Snatam Kaur - Mother's Blessing (2005)

Snatman Kaur & Prabhu Nam Kaur Mother's Blessing
MOTHER'S BLESSING is a beautiful collaboration between mother and daughter, Prabhu Nam Kaur and Snatam Kaur, in celebration of the Great Mother. The music stays in line with what one might expect from a Snatam Kaur album - sweet, dreamy arrangements, a mix of Eastern and Western instrumentation (harmonium, strings, Indian percussion, light synth) and tender singing. The mantras themselves are derived from the Sikh tradition of Gurbani kirtan. They offer praise and ask for blessings from the Great Mother. Snatam and Prabhu have wonderful harmony - both of their voices are pitched rather similarly, so they complement each other well. This is a great album for exploring spirituality or providing an environment of love and peace during meditation.
Five classical kirtan tracks feature the rich vocal interplay between Prabhu Nam Kaur and her daughter, Snatam Kaur. Accompanied by layers of tabla, harmonium, viola, bansuri, keyboards, guitar and bass guitar On this gentle, deeply moving album, the intimate, musical conversation between mother and daughter wraps you in a soothing blanket of sound.
These devotional hymns are from the Sikh tradition of Gurbani Kirtan. The words are direct transmissions from the Sound Current, recited by Amar Das, the bards Satte and Balwand, and Guru Arjan, who lived in 16th century India. Anyone who sings or listens to these words with meditative mind and heart will be transported into the Sound Current from which the words have come.
